The bizarre stories I’ve been hearing about Donald Trump’s purchase and revamping of Lamborghini make my blood boil. It appears he took (once agian) a perfectly good company, and destroyed it. I guess he’s been taking his Satan pills again latley.
I used to own a Lamborghini back when owning one meant something. Did you know that the Miura was named after one of the best bullfighters of all time? It seems like another era. From what I hear Trump is intent on making Japanese-style compact family cars for Lamborghini.
Ouch.
Maybe I am just getting old - I mean, what should it matter to me if a car company sells its’ soul? It’s just a brand, right? It shouldn’t be like when Bob Dylan started singing for the Bank Of Montreal, should it? Then again, I’m old enough to remember when Coke tried to mess with its’ hundred year-old ingredients. The consumer backlash was heavy enough to create Coke Classic. And where’s New Coke now, Mr. Trump?

Have you ever ben to China? I just bopped over to Shanghai and what I saw there just about flipped my lid. I love American cars, but what they’ve got buzzing around Shanghai city streets these days is light years ahead of what our designers at Ford and GM are occupying their time with. I think someone needs to charter a group flight and send our US guys over there for a look at what’s going on ;otherwise, I’m afraid us Americans are going to miss the boat.
One awesome car I saw over there is the Xing Goa “Olympic”. Even though the Games are set for Beijing next year, you can spot Olympic fever all over Shanghai. I guess making an “Olympic” car is just a natural outpouring of that national enthusiasm.
My Chinese friend Yao took me for a spin in his “Olympic” which just knocked my socks off. The inside of that car looked more like an F-15 than a family sedan, but it’s the same car he uses to pick up his wife and kids every day after work. In China they really have an enthusiasm for the family as well; not like here, where sometimes people call you uncool for wanting to have a wife and kids at home.

I was recently reading through a Las Vegas guide when I discovered that the MGM Grand holds an anuual low-rider car show every December. Being an avid enthusiast I decided I would take a few friends down with me this year. The funny thing is I have never even been to Vegas. Sounds like a dangerous place to me. Fast cars, fast money and fast women. I think as long as I stay away from the Casino tables and focus on the car show, I should be alright.
I love low-rider cars. I have ever since I saw the movie Boyz in da Hood. I love pimpin’ out my ride with the latest hydraulics and rims and not forgetting to deck out the interior with some leather and P.H. fat system. I love cruising with my homeboyz on the weekend looking for chicks to pick up. Hopefully, I will pick up some new products at the Vegas car show and maybe I will even enter my ride into the competition.

My Monday morning started off like any other with some quick and easy recipes from chefs so I could whip up some creative food ideas for the kids lunches. Once the lunches were packed it was off to school we drove in our BMW X5. Ever since my husband bought this vehicle I have never felt so in tune with my masculine side. What I mean by that is, I have never really been into cars, but now I just love popping off for a short trip in this awesome all terrain vehicle.
We used to own a shitty old Volvo that barely got us from A to B, but now that we have the X5, we have been camping, off-road, on the beach and in the City. This car is such a pleasure to drive. The leather interior is amazing and the kids just love the dual headrest DVD and playstation consoles. It is also one of the safest cars to drive as voted by Motor magazine. As a mother of three, I highly recommend this vehicle purely for it’s space and safety factors.

Don’t you just love being a man. I mean, who else gets to drive fast cars and pull hot women? Last weekend my boss told me I had to go on a week long business trip and rather than pay for a flight he decided to hire a Ferrari F355 Spider for me. What a treat. I couldn’t believe what he was telling me when I heard the news. Anyway, it was about a 3 hour drive from our offices in Byron Bay up the coast to Brisbane. What an exhilirating journey it was. Not only did I get to drive one of the hottest production cars ever built but I also picked up a hitch-hiker who turned out to be a young 22 year old Brisbane Nanny.
Obviously, she was very impressed by my car and we hit it off really well. As she was a nanny, she didn’t have that much money so hence the reason why she was hitching. One thing lead to another and we ended up going out to dinner that night. It wasn’t until Monday morning that she actually left my hotel room only because I had to be in a meeting by 9am. What a weekend. We spent most of it cruising around the beaches or staying in the hotel room if you know what I mean. My advice - hire a Ferrrari. You’ll be amazed at the heads you’ll turn in that thing.

Last week I decided to purchase a new car and rather than take out a car loan I decided I would use my American Express Platinum card. Bold move one may say, but the amount of points I gained by doing this is almost enough to buy a round-trip airline ticket. The credit card processing services of Amex are second to none, especially if you are a platinum member. So, enough about the logistics, what did I buy you ask!
I decided to buy the new Holden Monaro in jet black. An awesome vehicle that has torque that would give any exotic car a run for it’s money. Naturally, I went with all the extras, 21inch rims, leather interior and the all important Cerwin Vega stereo system complete with twin 12inch woofers. I took it for a spin the day I bought it and it certainly is a head turner. Of course all of my friends wanted to give it ago but there was no way I was going to let that happen!

Arghhh, I am so angry right now. Last week I purchased my first ever car - a brand spanking new 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX. Why am I am screaming with disappointment? Well, I take it for a cruise from Sydney to Canberra to break in the engine and as usual there are the masses of semi trailers going the same way. Suddenly, a big Mack truck comes roaring past me doing about 120km/h and goes off the road a little so that all the gravel on the side sprays up onto my windshield. So, now I have not one but several big chips in my windscreen. I’ve been searching all week to find a decent auto glass repair shop that is going to do a good job but without the massive cost.
I was so tempted at the time to chase this guy down and give him a piece of my mind, but definitely thought twice about it knowing how dodgy some truck drivers can be. I’d been saving for the past year to buy this baby and was just so devastated. Even the grill and bonnet have minor scratches on them too. Well, beside this debacle, it was an awesome drive. This car has got killer acceleration and torque. As soon as the turbo kicks in, this thing is off. I highly recommend it to any sports car lover.

A few weeks ago I was offered a Limousine job in Virginia. As I live in New York, I decided it wasn’t too far for me to travel in order to make some quick cash. Usually, as a driver I tend to stick to local area jobs but I thought it might be a nice chance to check out some of the Virginia Real Estate properties. The job was the usual limo job. Pick up the wealthy client and drive him around all night. I was expecting some arrogant rich guy but was surprised when a young girl of 20 something got into the limo. It certainly was a nice change from some of the clients I have worked for in New York City.
While I was driving this young lady around she told me quite a lot about the City. Did you know that Virginia is also known as the Mother of Presidents? This is because 8 US Presidents have been born and raised in Virginia. Not surprising then is the fact that it also houses the headquarters of the CIA and the Department of Defense, or otherwise known as the Pentagon. Now, those would be some places I’d like to visit! Purely to see the high tech security systems they have in place and to maybe meet an Agent or something. That sure would be fun. The girl never disclosed her job to me, but I was paid quite handsomely for it.

Well, I have some really exciting news. Last week I finished my last day of work as a mechanic! I have been a mechanic and working on cars since the age of 16 and next week is my 55th birthday. Yes that’s right it’s time to give these sores muscles and weak bones a break. It’s time to retire. What more fitting than to finish my career by buying one of those 55+ homes that my wife and I recently discovered.
Have you heard of these 55+ communities? These places are great and to tell you the truth it was only 6 months ago that I’d first heard of them. They are plots of land with houses on them purely for people aged 55 and over. I couldn’t believe these places actually existed. Maybe I have been living in the stone ages because apparently they are all the rage.
And, this leaves me with a lot more time to spend working on my hobby of restoring old cars. The property we have purchased has a huge garage that will accommodate all my tools and other car parts I have accumulated over the years. The next project I have planned is to restore and old Shelby Mustang. I’ve always dreamed of doing this but never really had the time to put in the effort to make it near original. I haven’t decided on the model yet but I will keep you posted.

Now, I know a lot of you who come to this website are only interested in reading about the latest model sports cars and hey so am I, but sometimes we tend to forget about the topic of Used Cars. Over the years I’ve purchased some great used cars and I’ve also purchased some real lemons too. The best used car I think I bought was a Leyland Mini. It was bright yellow, had done about 80,000 miles but she ran like a beauty and never gave me any trouble. I think I owned her for about 5 years before I decided to sell her to some young kid who wanted to restore Minis as a hobby.
When it comes to lemons, I’ve also had my fair share of shockers. I bought a Toyota Celica GT4 when I was in my twenties and what a waste of money that turned out to be. I think I had the car for about 3 days when the engine blew and I was quoted at about $5,000 to have a rebuilt put in. I had originally purchased the car for $12,000 and as I didn’t have $5,000 to repair the engine, I had to sell it for $4,000. So if anyone else out there has any stories of purchasing used cars, please feel free to share it here.
